Miss Match Reviewed in the Globe and Mail
The Globe and Mail is Canada’s National newspaper. I was astonished to find that Miss Match had been reviewed there. (And just a note, my review appeared directly below a review of one of Alexander McCall Smith’s books. Squeee! That’s me shrieking like a fangirl.)
MISS MATCH
By Sara Mills, Moody Publishers, 317 pages, $17.50
I really picked up this book, the second in the Allie Fortune series, because I loved the cover, but it's a great little post-Second World War noir novel.
FBI agent Jack O'Connor gets a help me letter from Maggie, a woman he was in love with during the war. She's in Berlin and in trouble. Jack can't go in any official capacity, so he hires Allie, New York City's hottest female PI, to help him save the day.
There are a few creaks in the plot, but Mills, who hails from Alberta, has some solid characters and a great time period for her story. Postwar Berlin remains one of the great romantic cities of all mystery fiction, and it's the perfect place for this engaging lady sleuth.
